NEWTON

Newton was born in 1978 in Laikipia East, Ngare Ndare, just a stone’s throw from Sirai House in Borana, where he started work in 2011, initially training as a waiter. Newton saw the ocean for the first time when he visited Sirai Beach in December 2017, and it was love at first sight – prompting his move from Sirai House to Sirai Beach. Newton is married with five children, the youngest born in Kilifi during that fateful visit! He has a beautiful singing voice and is the leader of the Sirai Choir.

THOYA

Thoya has honed his culinary skills over many years in Nairobi’s most refined restaurants. Born in nearby Malindi, as a small boy he was introduced to cooking by his father, a chef in a private house. Thoya began his career in 2003, developing his own culinary style, fusing Mediterranean influences with his love of Kenyan ingredients. He worked under George at Sirai House before moving back to his beloved coast as Head Chef at Sirai Beach.

BAHATI

Born in Kilifi in 1963, Bahati has worked in the housekeeping department for many hotels in Malindi, working her way up from room steward to supervisor before becoming head of housekeeping at Kola Beach, before being recommended to us for not only for her housekeeping skills and sense of responsibility, but also her beaming smile and warm personality. Bahati has four grown up children, who all live nearby in Kilifi.

MIKE

Born just outside of Kilifi in 1968, Mike began his career working with the gardening guru, Colleen Street. He worked on the landscaping of Sirai Beach alongside Colleen, involving the planting of 100 indigenous trees, frangipani, bougainvillea, bamboos and palms. The magnificent ancient baobabs were protected, preserved and incorporated into the buildings to prevent any damage, while the 4.5 acres of lawn were planted – literally – blade by blade.
